Police report storms, vehicle break-ins and a domestic response; fire department receives 80/20 grant

Stephens City police and fire officials reported public-safety incidents and service updates at the July 2, 2019 Town Council meeting.
Police Chief Charles Bockey Jr. told council that June had been busy: storms caused tree and wire damage but produced no reported injuries; approximately 10 vehicles were broken into at the end of June with items stolen; and officers responded to a domestic incident on Mulberry Court. Sgt. Baber and Officer Payne were credited with taking control of that incident, and council minutes note an 11-year-old in the residence was described as a hero for their actions. Chief Bockey also announced National Night Out will be held Aug. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Fire Chief John Jones reported that the Stephens City Volunteer Fire Department had received an "80/20 Grant." The minutes do not provide the grant amount, intended purpose, or funding partners.
Town Manager Mike Majher provided municipal-service updates: he welcomed new employee Kelly Thatcher, reminded residents that personal property and real estate taxes are due July 8 and water bills are due in August, noted the new yard-waste site is open and filling quickly, reported that a water repair on Steele Court had been completed, and warned of a scheduled short water outage affecting residents from High Point to Lantz's next week (residents will be notified).
