JB Seafood owner urges expanded hours as Myersville introduces eating-and-drinking ordinances

The Town of Myersville held a public hearing June 10 on proposed ordinances to regulate eating-and-drinking establishments, and Tyler Staley, owner/operator of JB Seafood, asked the council for permission to operate outside current posted hours.

At the hearing, Staley said he would like flexibility to operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and asked that staff be allowed to keep service going for customers who remain past posted closing. Town Planner Brandon Boldyga explained that provisions differ by district: businesses in the Historic Town Center overlay may not require additional Board of Appeals review for certain special exceptions, while Village Industrial properties are subject to different limits.

Mayor Mark Hinkle and councilmembers then moved the ordinances into the regular meeting agenda. Council introduced Eating and Drinking Establishments Ordinance 2025-08 and Eating & Drinking Establishments Hours of Operation Ordinance 2025-09; both motions to introduce carried 5–0. The motions begin the formal legislative process but do not adopt the ordinances. The planner noted next steps for implementation and how the HTC overlay interacts with special-exception requirements.

Why it matters: the ordinances define when restaurants and bars may operate in designated districts in and around Myersville’s Historic Town Center, affecting local business operations and enforcement. The council will consider the ordinances in future meetings before any final adoption.
