Bogue planning board tables Bogue Sound Distillery’s request for outdoor entertainment

The Town of Bogue Planning Board on April 3, 2025, voted unanimously to table a special-use permit application from Bogue Sound Distillery that would allow the business to host outdoor entertainment.
The board, meeting at Bogue Town Hall, considered the distillery’s application during new business. Member Robert O’Chat moved to table the request until the next Planning Board meeting, and Member David Morris seconded; the motion passed unanimously among members present.
A resident, Ed Maderis, told the board he supported outdoor entertainment at the distillery, saying that “all venues have outdoor music” and urging the board to allow it. No vote on the permit itself was taken; the application remains pending until the board takes it up again.
At the start of the meeting Chairman Chris Griffin led the roll call; Clerk Shawne Southard swore in Robert O’Chat to a three-year term on the Planning Board. Southard also reported she had administratively approved three permits: a new house and garage at 109 Creek Line Drive; an accessory building at 133 Hunting Bay Drive; and a business building and sign for a paver distributor at 5361 Highway 24.
The board approved the meeting agenda and accepted the minutes of its prior meeting unanimously. (The printed transcript lists the earlier minutes as dated March 6, 2026; meeting chronology indicates that date is likely an error and should read March 6, 2025.)
The board adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
