The Town Council of Bogue voted unanimously Thursday, March 27, to hire Barbara Owens as the town clerk, setting a starting salary of $40,706 and requiring that she pursue a Certified Municipal Clerk certificate by the end of 2026.
Mayor Robert O’Chat called the special meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. at Bogue Town Hall, 121 Chimney Branch Road. Councilman John Dale moved to accept the agenda; Councilman Mike Crose seconded and the council approved the agenda unanimously.
Councilman Albert Taylor moved that the council enter a closed session under §143-318.11(a)(6) to discuss personnel matters; Councilman John Dale seconded. The motion passed unanimously. After the closed session, Councilman Mike Crose moved to exit closed session pursuant to the same statute; Councilman David Padgett seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Following the personnel discussion, Councilman David Padgett moved to hire Barbara Owens as the new town clerk at a salary of $40,706, with the stipulation that she pursue her Certified Municipal Clerk certificate by the end of 2026. Councilman Mike Crose seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The council adjourned at 5:44 p.m. after a motion from Councilman Padgett, seconded by Councilman Dale.
