Bogue council unanimously approves auditor contract, park covenants and SRO cost share

At its April 14 meeting, the Town Council of Bogue unanimously approved a FY2024–25 auditor contract not to exceed $8,500, approved a Declaration of Covenants for Bogue Loop Road Park to prohibit residential or commercial structures, and accepted a $741 school resource officer cost share; officials also reviewed finances, permits and event plans.
The Town Council of Bogue met April 14, 2025, at Bogue Town Hall and unanimously approved a handful of routine items, including a fiscal-year auditor contract, restrictions on town park property and the county’s cost-share for the school resource officer.
The council voted to hire Carr, Riggs, and Ingram as the town’s auditor for fiscal year 2024–2025 in a contract capped at $8,500. Councilman David Padgett moved the contract’s approval and Councilman John Dale seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The approval leaves the town with an auditor arrangement for the coming fiscal period.
Town Attorney Donna Boggs described a Declaration of Covenants and Restrictions forwarded by The Conservation Fund for the Bogue Loop Road Park property, saying that “no residential or commercial structures can be constructed on the property.” The council approved the Declaration as presented; The Conservation Fund will proceed with recording the deed in the town’s name.
Council members also accepted the county’s share for the School Resource Officer this year, $741.00. Councilman John Dale moved to accept the cost-sharing payment; Councilman Mike Crose seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
In reports to the council, Mayor Robert O’Chat stated the town’s total cash funds are $706,393.50. Clerk Shawne Southard said property taxes, motor vehicle taxes and local sales tax have been paid through February. Southard also reported she approved three permits: an accessory building at 133 Hunting Bay Drive, a new house at 109 Creek Line Drive, and a metal office building at 5361 Hwy 24.
Councilman John Dale said Western Carteret will hold a public hearing on its budget April 23, 2025. Councilman David Padgett reported gravel work on Chimney Branch Road. Councilwoman Allison Cannon announced the Bogue Day committee will meet April 24 at 5:30 p.m.; L.B. Page is listed as the event’s first sponsor and Tajuana Hill will sing the National Anthem.
The meeting concluded at 6:25 p.m. after a unanimous motion to adjourn.
