Resident asks Bogue to move utility pole; mayor says town cannot pay for private-property work

Donald Blais of 264 Chimney Branch Road asked the Bogue Town Council on March 17 whether the town could help pay to move a power and cable pole from the middle of his property to Chimney Branch Road. Blais told the council the pole remains where the road originally ran and that the town previously asked for the road to be moved in 2016.
Mayor Robert O’Chat replied that the town could not pay for work on private property, stating, “it is not allowed for a Municipality to pay for anything located on private property.” The council discussed the matter but did not record any motion to provide funding or to take further action on the request.
The council did not schedule a follow-up or direct staff to pursue funding options; the matter remains the resident’s responsibility unless a separate agreement is later reached or outside funding is obtained.
