Bogue council accepts clean audit, reappoints planning board members

Mayor Robert O'Chat called the Town Council of Bogue to order on Jan. 13, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Bogue Town Hall. The council unanimously approved the meeting agenda and the Dec. 16, 2024, minutes, and later unanimously reappointed Robert O'Chat and Chris Griffin to three-year terms on the town Planning Board.
Tom Monte of Carr, Riggs & Ingram presented the Town's 2023–2024 audit and told the council the town is in "good financial shape," adding that the State accepted the audit with no changes. "Keep doing what you are doing," Monte said when council members asked whether further steps were needed.
Mayor Robert O'Chat reported the town's total cash funds are $688,184.79. Town Clerk Shawne Southard said property taxes and motor vehicle taxes are paid through November, local sales tax receipts are paid through October, and the town has received its final Powell Bill payment.
In department updates, Councilman John Dale said the town donated an ambulance to the community college and that the interim chief has become the chief. Councilman David Padgett reported a sign on Honey's Way in Lake Arthur was run over and that the county will replace it. Councilwoman Allison Cannon said the town will form an events committee and Clerk Shawne Southard said she will email residents seeking volunteers; she also noted she will attend a municipal finance course in New Bern on Feb. 19.
