Bogue council appoints Scott Stoner to planning board, reschedules May meeting

At its April 20 meeting the Town Council unanimously appointed Scott Stoner to the planning board, voted to reschedule the May meeting to May 14 due to the town attorney's medical procedure, reviewed routine financial and departmental reports and entered a closed session under attorney-client privilege.
The Bogue Town Council unanimously appointed Scott Stoner to fill a planning-board vacancy at its April 20 meeting.
Councilmember JoAnn Parker moved to appoint Stoner as a regular planning-board member; Councilmember John Dale seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Cecil Hurst elected to remain as an alternate, leaving one alternate seat open for later filling.
The council also voted to cancel the previously scheduled May 18 meeting and reschedule the May council meeting to Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Town Attorney Donna Boggs told the council she would be unable to attend the May 18 meeting due to a previously scheduled medical procedure; Councilmember Mike Crose moved to reschedule and Councilmember Allison Cannon seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
During department reports the finance update listed total cash funds of $678,340. The planner noted a Special Use Permit application for retail sales in the B-1 zoning district is expected next month. The council also heard that Western Fire Department hired Dustin Clapp as full-time fire chief with a six-month probationary period and that paving on Chimney Branch is scheduled for June.
At 6:25 p.m. the council entered closed session under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 143-318.11(a)(3) for attorney-client privilege (motion by JoAnn Parker, seconded by John Dale); the council reconvened at 7:15 p.m. (motion to exit by Mike Crose, seconded by JoAnn Parker). No formal action from closed session was reported in open session. The meeting adjourned unanimously at 7:26 p.m.
The next Town Council meeting is scheduled for May 14, 2026.
