Manager reports debt payoff, conservation talks and new customer water notifications

Town Manager Steven Denton used his April 6 report to outline recent financial and operational developments for Stanley.
Denton said the town paid off the Tug’s gym debt this month, which he estimated would save roughly $60,000 a year in principal and interest. He said he met with conservation officials to discuss protecting Catawba Lands Conservancy corridors along Stanley Creek because of local plant populations, and announced a proposed small-business advertising program to appear in quarterly town newsletters (initial funding offered by Greg Dimmer, and the program would exclude alcohol and tobacco advertisers).
Denton also described new water shut-off notification procedures that will send three email and text notices before service disconnection and said the town will waive reconnection fees for customers who sign up for automatic drafts. He said staff continued to pursue additional water-infrastructure grant funding with a grant specialist and scheduled a budget workshop for April 21 at 3:30 PM.
The council received the manager’s report with no additional comments recorded in the minutes.
