The Stanley Town Council voted April 6 to initiate the annexation review process for a voluntary petition from Craig Realty and Development Company covering about 26.76 acres (Parcel #307000) off Highway 27 South.
Town Clerk Olga McGinnis presented her certification that the petition met statutory requirements for signatures, contiguity and legal description. On a motion from Council Member Brendan Sweeney, the council approved a resolution directing the clerk to investigate the petition’s sufficiency; that vote was unanimous. Council also set a public hearing on the annexation for the council's May 5 meeting at 6:00 PM (a scheduling change made to accommodate a council conflict on May 4); the call for a hearing was moved by Council Member Leigh Anna Helms and seconded by Council Member Marsha Miskelly and passed 5-0.
The minutes record that the petition was received Feb. 16, 2026, and that the property is contiguous to town limits. The agenda and minutes do not include further project details, proposed zoning, or developer plans; those items will be considered as part of the sufficiency review and at the public hearing.
