Authority approves tree removal, permit refund and bond release; continues unsafe-building item to April 15

At its meeting the Hobart City Redevelopment Authority approved removal of a locust tree at 7798 Tanager Street at the owners' expense, authorized a refund for building permit 2657, agreed to release a performance bond for Lumen's Logistics once a maintenance bond is in place, and set an unsafe-building hearing for 300 West Old Bridge Road on April 15.
The Hobart City Redevelopment Authority approved several routine agenda items, including removal of a tree at 7798 Tanager Street, a refund for one building permit, and a conditional bond release for a development, and it continued an unsafe-building matter to an April 15 hearing.
A resident (S3) told the Authority that property owners and an arborist agreed it was appropriate to remove a locust tree in the public easement at 7798 Tanager Street because the tree would grow large and risk sidewalks; the resident said the owners would "take it down on their dime." The Chair (S1) moved to grant the removal at the owners' expense; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The Authority voted to refund building permit number 2657 (WindhamNation) after a motion and second, and approved a request from Lumen's Logistics to release a performance bond and substitute a maintenance bond for the related development after staff review indicated it was appropriate. The Chair moved to release the performance bond once a maintenance bond is in place; the motion was seconded and approved.
On an unsafe-building matter, staff member (S4) reported that a property owner, Mr. Cox, had submitted paperwork for a planning commission public hearing on a one-lot subdivision and that, upon approval, the house would be taken down. The Authority set the unsafe-building item for further review at the April 15 meeting.
Other business: the Chair announced the upcoming State of the City event and reported more than 40 youths participated the first day of a reenergized after-school program run through the PCC center and the mayor's youth council. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn.
The Authority recorded approvals by voice vote on the listed items and directed staff to carry out the administrative follow-up required for refunds, bond substitution and notification of schedule changes.
