Stoddard Planning Board pushes Master Plan updates, tables recycling section

At the June 2 meeting the Stoddard Planning Board reviewed several Master Plan chapters and set a target to have a new Master Plan ready for the 2027 Town Meeting.
Chair Bob Maden walked newer board members through the Master Plan’s purpose and the work completed this year. The board tabled the Utilities and Public Service chapter and the Conservation & Preservation chapter to future meetings pending additional updates, and it suggested adding information about the local foodbank (stored in the second fire building across from the Mill Village Store) to the Facilities section.
Board members also discussed two Community Planning Ordinance amendments they plan to work on this year: updates to accessory dwelling unit (ADU) rules to conform with state guidelines, and amendments to allow some commercial uses in residential and lakeside districts provided they meet stated guidelines. The board noted there are roughly seven months to complete ordinance revisions and have public hearings in time for Town Meeting or a town vote; members were urged to submit suggested updates in time for review.
The Recycling Center/Transfer Station section of the Facilities chapter was tabled because the Selectmen are considering contract options; the Planning Board said it cannot provide accurate text until the Selectmen decide. The Economic Development survey was reported to be underperforming; Secretary Vickie Williams and board members will attempt direct outreach to companies by phone or email to complete the survey.
Member Steve Jacobs said he intends to review the town’s subdivision regulations. The board noted the town has not formally adopted a Capital Improvement Plan and that adopting one may be a next step after updating the Master Plan.
