The Stoddard Selectboard on May 27 discussed a proposed overhaul of building permit fees and related permit procedures, including how fees might differ for trailers/mobile homes and for accessory dwelling units (ADUs) depending on whether they are inside an existing dwelling or a separate structure.
A draft fee table reviewed by the board included suggested amounts such as commercial permits at $1,500, new dwellings at $1,000, ADUs at $500, and tiered fees for additions or garages based on value. The board also considered requiring that building permits be displayed on site before work begins, allowing photos to be taken before approval, and adding items such as cement pads and HVAC changes to an FAQ. Town Administrator Michelle Pong will check whether the town has jurisdiction to permit docks not attached to shore or whether that authority lies with NHDES.
Compliance Officer Harry Power said he and Chair LaRoche will attend an upcoming DES inspection and that he is monitoring house sales to ensure required septic inspections occur; he will contact the Health Officer to clarify procedures for receiving reports, particularly for seasonal waterfront properties without approved septic systems. Several permit approvals were recorded during the meeting, including a Juniper Hill new build, a Fox Run garage (24x24), a Scenic Drive new house, and a Sarcione modular home (26x44 on slab).
