Residents urge pause on Gardens Nature Park plan over wildlife and ADA access concerns

Cynthia Lynn told council she is concerned that picnic facilities and food service near stocked waters and wetlands would create safety problems and potential liability related to alligators and other wildlife. She asked that food facilities be moved to parking areas or that the park be fenced and that the council consider tabling the proposal until late December when migratory birds return and Audubon habitat validation can be completed.
Suzanne Klein, who identified herself as a disabled resident, urged council to follow the recommendation in an ADA consultant's report and initiate an "interactive process" with her to consider reasonable modifications to parking and park design. Klein said she suffered a medical event after closely engaging with the prior meeting process and that accommodations would allow disabled residents to participate. "We urge the city... to initiate the interactive process with the complainant," she said, referring to the ADA review.
Council did not take immediate action to pause the park project during the meeting; staff and council members acknowledged the public testimony and will need to address ADA consultant recommendations and wildlife‑habitat questions as the project proceeds.
