Town of Mountain hears ambulance, fire and animal-control updates; animal-control backup recommended

At the Oct. 8 Town of Mountain meeting, Supervisor Carey-Mielke reported 21 ambulance calls for September and said the service is on pace for roughly 215 calls this year, which could exceed last year’s total. The 2025 ambulance budget was made available for review.
The fire department reported that firefighters were assisting on a forest fire at Lower Dam; related agenda items (FirstNet phone/internet update and a water-use agreement) were tabled while personnel responded to the incident.
Supervisor Carey-Mielke also updated the board on animal-control matters connected to an Oconto County Sheriff March incident: two dogs have been fostered and there are interested adopters for two other dogs. An agreement with Oconto County Health & Human Services and the sheriff’s department was tabled while staff were assisting with the fire.
After closed-session interviews, the board reconvened and recommended hiring Ryan Berg as a part-time backup for animal-control duties when regular staff are unavailable; the motion carried. The minutes list the recommendation and next steps but do not show a detailed hiring contract or start date.
No votes on budget amounts for EMS or fire response were recorded at the meeting; the ambulance-call totals and the hiring recommendation were the primary operational items discussed.
