Village board approves new Indian Head Park electronic message sign after debate on size and readability

Village Trustee Eric Bridal, who described the options, said the selected model “would be the largest screen we do have in the village on village signs currently,” and that the sign’s digital panel is approximately 3 feet high and 8.5 feet wide while using twice the pixel count of the Field Park sign, allowing more graphic detail. A staff member explained the request for proposals required the same digital panel across bids: “the digital portion of the sign is all that was spec'd out ... 3 feet high and 8 feet wide,” and that differences among proposals were in the monument casing and footprint.
Several trustees stressed legibility. One trustee noted complaints that the Field Park sign was hard to read and said the denser pixel pitch in the new sign would address that. Another board member said the preferred option “comes in within our budget.” After brief remarks the board moved and approved the item on a voice vote.
The motion carried; the board did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript. The approved sign will replace or augment existing village signage at Indian Head Park; staff said it will also display Village Hall and outdoor stage information as needed. The board did not specify installation timing in this meeting.
