Mukwonago committee approves Camporee permit and waives park fee for scouting expo

The Village of Mukwonago Committee of the Whole on April 1 approved a special-events permit allowing local scout troops to hold a Mukwonago scouting expo/Camporee in Field Park this summer and voted to waive the normal park-use fee.

At a public presentation, an organizer representing multiple Mukwonago-area troops outlined the plan: Friday evening set-up, daytime activities roughly 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a coordinated flag-retirement ceremony with the American Legion, and a cleanup plan that uses a police-line-style sweep to collect trash. The organizer said the event would be free and open to the public.

“In looking at the overall application submission … Feel Park would be a fantastic place for it,” the presenter said, describing the site as centrally located and suitable for demonstrations and youth activities. Josh Piper, who identified himself as a first-class scout and senior youth coordinator, and other youth participants answered logistical questions about tents, first-aid and cooking arrangements.

Trustees pressed on details: whether all three troops are Mukwonago-based (they are), where tents would be located (north of the baseball diamond), and whether cooking fires would be above ground (organizers said they plan to use above-ground cooking options and portable devices). Public-works and police staff reported no safety concerns and called the cleanup plan “suitable.”

During the Committee’s business agenda, the trustees discussed the permit fee. One trustee proposed reducing a $350-per-day fee to $25 per day ($75 total); the Chair then moved to waive the fee entirely. The motion to waive the fee carried.

The Committee approved the permit; trustees did not require additional staff or contingencies. The organizers said they would coordinate final details with village staff in advance of the event.
