Village of Nelson approves storage shed, bell frame and operator licenses; tables zoning and bylaws

At its Sept. 10 meeting the Village of Nelson approved purchases for a storage shed and a frame for an old school bell, approved new operator licenses and moved cemetery CD funds to savings; ordinance, cemetery bylaw and zoning items were tabled for later review.
The Village of Nelson on Sept. 10 approved several routine items including a new storage shed and a frame for the village’s old school bell while tabling zoning and cemetery bylaw updates, President Brian Glass presiding.
The board voted to approve the purchase of a new storage shed after a motion from Mike and a second from Randy; the motion carried and Bruce was assigned to order the shed. The board later approved a motion, moved by Mike and seconded by Kevin, to purchase materials and build a frame to place the historic school bell in front of the Community Center.
Randy moved and Mike seconded a motion to approve new operator licenses for the village; that motion carried. The board also approved the treasurer’s report following a motion from Randy and a second from Mike.
The cemetery certificate of deposit came up for renewal; the minutes state the proceeds will be transferred into the cemetery savings account for future cemetery expenses. The minutes do not record a mover or a formal vote for that transfer.
Several items were tabled for future meetings: discussion of handicap ramps at the Community Center, proposed cemetery bylaw revisions and a zoning item were all deferred. The board noted it is reviewing village ordinances and will look into zoning questions raised by a property owner/purchaser.
The board scheduled the 2025 budget meeting for Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Hall. The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Community Hall.
