The Nekoosa School District board adopted policy R3, titled 'Self-directed thinkers,' with a unanimous vote.
The policy describes four expectations for students: use information from a variety of sources to solve problems and make independent decisions; set priorities and assess personal progress; plan and prepare for careers aligned to interests and strengths; and demonstrate resilience and the ability to cope with adversity. Board members said the work has been concentrated at the high school and middle school and will expand as part of the district’s 'portrait of a graduate' planning.
A motion to adopt R3 was made, seconded and carried by voice vote; the chair noted a prior workshop conversation and no further discussion was recorded.
