Board approves CESA 5 contract for special education services; cost rises amid staffing change

Business manager Lynn Knight told the board that the contract cost is expected to increase by roughly 43.77%, driven largely by the decision to contract Amanda Boettcher from CESA 5 to serve as the district’s special education director. Knight said the hire will shift some salary-and-benefit line items into contract services; "it is a wash for 2025–26" because the district will reduce corresponding salary and benefit expenses.
Board members asked for timing details and Knight confirmed the contracted role begins July 1 and that Amanda Boettcher’s services are planned for four days per week instead of three. The motion to approve the contract was made, seconded and carried by the board.
Knight emphasized that the special education fund must be balanced under state law and that the district will continue interfund transfers from the general fund as needed to cover special-education shortfalls.
