Park board hears director report; schedules volunteer day and seeks volunteers for community events

Staff said the parks crew plans to condition the ball fields this season and expects the work to take about two to three days once materials are available. The director also said the Mini Movers event had been canceled due to weather and that 'Tiny Tots' is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. The director previewed a large fundraising raffle at the Fieldhouse hosted by the Odessa foundation, which staff estimated draws roughly 600 attendees.
On volunteer programming, staff proposed holding a park volunteer day focused on Caraway Lake with large-tree plantings and cleanup. Candidate dates presented to the board were Thursday evening April 9, Saturday April 11 or Tuesday April 14 (the regular board meeting date). Staff recommended evening time windows (about 5–7 p.m. or 6–8 p.m.) to increase participation; the board deferred to the next meeting to pick a final date. The director said staff will still promote the event even if signups in the parks software are low, noting successful outreach via social media in past years.
The director also asked for volunteers for the father-daughter masquerade slated for March 7 at 6:30 p.m.; several board members volunteered to help and staff will send reminders to confirm availability. The mother-son dance was noted for April 18.
The director referenced neighboring community use of the facility and noted Oak Grove residents sometimes attend events at the Fieldhouse and Webb Park. Staff will return with finalized volunteer-day scheduling and placement details at the next meeting.
