Park board approves storage containers for Little League equipment

The Park Board voted Feb. 24 to permit Little League Baseball and Little League Softball to install storage containers at Webb Park to cut rental costs and make equipment more accessible to coaches.
Park Director said the leagues requested containers to be placed between Fields 1 and 2, with additional units near Field 5/6 and within the complex, and that the leagues will supply the units. "They're requesting a storage container, to be placed between fields 1 and 2, and then 1 in the complex similar to what the girls high school softball has currently," the Park Director said. The director said parks staff would assist with site placement and gravel work and would maintain appearance if containers are painted or altered.
Board members asked about liability and security. The chair asked, "Is there any liability to us? Let's say if somebody breaks into those containers and steals anything out of it, how does that work?" The Park Director responded that the containers would effectively remain the leagues' property and that leagues would control locks and insurance decisions, while parks staff would "help with things we can." One member added that the board intends to purchase at least one container so units can continue to be available for leagues in future seasons.
After discussion the board moved, seconded and voted in favor of permitting the installation. The motion authorizes the leagues to place the containers at the described locations, with parks staff assistance and oversight for aesthetics and placement.
