Commission authorizes online auction to sell county surplus through Purple Wave

Public Works asked the Riley County Commission to approve an Internet-only surplus auction to sell county vehicles, equipment and other stored items.
The department said the plan would list individual vehicles and containerized lots on Purple Wave's platform in August, display items through the month and close bids at the end of the period; Purple Wave handles online advertising and collects buyer fees. Public Works told the board the approach would cost the county nothing up front and would be advertised in the county paper as required by statute.
A motion to authorize staff to contract with Purple Wave Inc., Manhattan, KS, and to begin the notice-of-intent process carried by unanimous voice vote.
