The Governor Wentworth Regional School Board approved several financial and policy items at its May 5 meeting, including the district’s accounts payable and payroll manifests, trust fund disbursements for student travel and scholarships, authorization for grant paperwork, and multiple policy actions.
On motion by Dr. Jim Manning (second Dr. Elizabeth Sheckler), the board approved accounts payable of $1,697,743.33 and payroll of $2,991,329.26 for a total of $4,689,072.59 as recorded in the minutes. The board also approved a KRMS/Crescent Lake School crowdfunding request to support student travel to the National History Day competition in Washington, D.C.
Superintendent Caroline Arakelian presented a Council Partnership Project Grant from the NH State Council on the Arts awarded to Scott Giessler to “improve the quality of life through the arts.” The board authorized Giessler, the School Board Chair, and the Business Administrator to sign required paperwork.
The board approved two Wood Estate Expendable Trust Fund applications: $8,400 to fund travel for the National History Day team (the minutes note the account balance as of December 2024 was $733,578.01, with $8,400 available to spend for FY2025) and $10,000 for Class of 2025 scholarships (10 × $1,000). Motions to approve these applications passed as recorded.
On policy matters the Academic Affairs Committee presented policies AD and DJ for reaffirmation and a longer list of policies for revision as second reads. The board approved the reaffirmation and the revisions, with one edit noted to policy KFA after discussion (Mr. Nate Williams requested adding the words “or nicotine” to #6 of policy KFA). All listed motions passed per the minutes.
Why it matters: The financial approvals clear payments and enable student opportunities and scholarships, while the policy approvals implement governance guidance for the district. The recorded Wood Estate balance and the stated trust fund amounts provide transparency about available funds for student activities.
