Infrastructure committee backs no-parking on Salina Ave and stop sign at Pine Brook Road

The Committee of Infrastructure voted June 24 to recommend final passage of two local traffic measures after public comment and Department of Public Works support.

Cynthia Butler, an employee of the United States Postal Service on Salina Ave, urged the committee to adopt ordinance O 26 0 1 5 to create a short no-parking zone at a corner she said prevents tractor-trailers from making a turn when cars are parked. "Our tractor trailers can't make that turn if someone is parked on the corner," Butler said, asking the committee to "please pass that."

A motion to recommend final passage of a related traffic ordinance, O 26 0 1 6, authorizing a stop sign at Pine Brook Road and its intersection with Ridge Road, was made and seconded during the meeting. Alderman Autumn Sullivan, who represents Ward 9 and said she put the legislation forward, thanked Nashua DPW for investigating and endorsing the change. "Resident actually, a couple residents caught that," Sullivan said, describing how the request reached DPW.

The committee conducted roll-call votes and passed both measures by unanimous voice/roll-call (tally recorded as yes: 4, no: 0). Communications from Wayne Husband, PE, senior traffic engineer at DPW, supporting both items were accepted and placed on file.

Why it matters: The no-parking change is meant to ensure postal delivery trucks can access a tight corner on Salina Ave, and the stop sign aims to address a missing control at an intersection noted by residents and staff. Both measures will be forwarded to the full board for final action.

The committee chair asked staff to include the applicant and DPW correspondence in the meeting minutes. The committee adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
