Boat ramp repair done; dry hydrant installation scheduled and road-equipment options discussed in Nelson

M. Tarr reported to the Nelson Select Board on Oct. 9 that the boat ramp repair is complete, though rip-rap migration at the site will likely continue over time. Tarr said the repair may last longer if boat owners exercise care when launching and removing boats, and the board said it will consider adding instructional signage.
Tarr also reported that arrangements were in place to complete the dry hydrant installation within the next few days.
The Road Equipment Committee met recently and discussed used-equipment options, including a lease-return for a loader if the machine’s hours are low enough; the committee said this could save the town money compared with an outright purchase.
Brenna Kucinski said the Conservation Commission wants to plan visits to the Gilsum Gravel Pit and inspect the area around the Safety Building because of concerns that hobblebush may be transported by highway trucks. The board did not take votes on equipment procurement or conservation site visits at this meeting.
