Nelson Select Board approves routine permits, penalties and equipment purchases in unanimous votes

Selectman Mike Blaudschun made motions — most were seconded by Chair Brenna Kucinski — that the board carried 3-0, including approval of minutes from the Sept. 18 meeting and manifests for Sept. 25 and Oct. 2. The board approved posting the Election Warrant for the Nov. 5 general election.
The board approved a Police Department purchase request for four tires and rims for a 2022 cruiser (State Bid) for $1,356.20 after discussion about the need for new rims. The board also approved a Fire Department purchase to relocate the base radio for $955.60.
Building permits approved included a permit for L. Derby to remove a deck and install a smaller stair landing with an overhang and a permit for J. Perry to add a three-car garage with an attached walk. The board approved land-use change tax penalties (LUCT) for the A. Hebert Irrevocable Trust, D. & K. Schillemat, and The Glass Hammer for cleared or disturbed land that had been under Current Use assessment.
The board briefly reviewed a recent Zoning Board of Adjustment public hearing on a variance request by the Cermak Trust; the ZBA denied the variance and the Select Board expressed support for that decision while noting concern about the building’s future use.
With no further business, the board voted to adjourn at 4:58 PM. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2024, at 3:00 PM.
