Nelson select board approves routine reports, $250 grant and adds $200,000 to tax-reduction line

The Nelson Select Board approved a slate of routine financial and reporting items at its Sept. 4 meeting, authorized a $250 funding payment to Community Volunteer Transportation for 2025 and agreed to include $200,000 on the town’s MS-434 form to reduce property taxes when the tax rate is set.
Presenter J. Filipi opened the meeting’s substantive agenda with a report of calls handled in August and presented a mockup of a proposed uniform patch featuring the Old Brick Schoolhouse; bids are being solicited for printing. Filipi also reported signs of transmission trouble in the town’s 2014 cruiser and said the vehicle will be serviced and its transmission flushed. He said the new cruiser will be used as the primary vehicle in good weather and the older cruiser during snow season.
Selectman Michael Blaudschun moved to approve the minutes of the Aug. 21, 2024 Selectmen’s meeting; Chair Brenna Kucinski seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The board likewise approved the manifests for Aug. 28 and Sept. 4, 2024 by the same vote.
On the budget and reporting front, the board approved the 2024 MS-1 and MS-1V (town valuation) and the MS-535 (2023 audit report) for submission to New Hampshire’s Department of Revenue Administration (DRA). Blaudschun moved to approve the MS-434 for submission and to include $200,000 to reduce taxes; Kucinski seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The board noted that the precise application of that reduction will be finalized when the town’s tax rate is set.
The board voted to grant $250 for 2025 to Community Volunteer Transportation, the same amount provided this year; Don Carlisle moved and Blaudschun seconded, and the motion carried 3-0.
The Select Board chair signed the state shoreland permit that arrived for installation of a dry hydrant at Granite Lake; the chair signed the document in preparation for posting it at the work site. The chair also signed the NH State Assessing Association ballot for submission.
With no further business, the board adjourned at 4:15 PM. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18, 2024 at 3:00 PM.
