Board authorizes $52,185 plan-review work order for proposed Oasis Marriott project

Building Official Ron White asked the board to authorize work order No. 1 with George Butler Associates (GBA) to provide plan-review services for a proposed Oasis Marriott project. White said the applicant submitted plan-review fees and the firm’s scope and contract are included in the packet.
"The estimated valuation of this project is $145,000,000 and includes approximately 4,500 pages of plans and specifications," White told the board. He said GBA was selected from firms responding to an RFQ and that the firm has nationwide experience with large projects.
White explained the plan-review arrangement is revenue-neutral in that the applicant pays plan-review fees that are then used to pay the reviewers; the city will incur some administrative accounting and inspection-related workload. Board members asked whether the city would otherwise charge a higher building-permit fee and White said the permit revenue would cover such services under normal circumstances.
The motion to authorize the work order for an amount not to exceed $52,185 carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: Staff will execute the work order and proceed with the plan-review process; additional permits and inspections will follow as the project advances.
