Palmyra board authorizes repairs, equipment purchases as water plant and well issues continue

Water/Wastewater Manager Dustin Smith told the Palmyra Board of Public Works on March 5 that the town is addressing several operational problems at the water and wastewater facilities.
Smith said the town is reviewing water loss and that an old meter at the plant likely explains discrepancies; he plans to replace the meter as part of Department of Natural Resources (DNR) upgrades and has contacted the Missouri Rural Water Association about leak-detection options. The minutes record no test results; the replacement and further detection work are next steps.
On equipment, Smith and employee Blake Klein reported the vac truck remains unrepaired. The board authorized removing the truck from a Wentzville shop and attempting repairs at Robert’s Garage. The board also approved authorizing Smith to receive reimbursement from Leeser Truck Wash for expenses associated with the pre-treatment program.
The board was informed Well #4 is not working and is believed to have a broken shaft. Flynn Drilling and Richards Electric will assist in moving communications to Well #7 and adjusting flow and pressure while repairs are arranged.
To meet a DNR requirement to exercise valves annually, the board approved purchase of a portable gate valve tool for $5,500. It also approved buying tractor forks from Sydenstricker for $1,100 to assist unloading polymer at the wastewater plant. The minutes record motions to approve these purchases and the repair plan; specific roll-call tallies are not included.
With no further business, the board adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
