New Greenfield Farmer’s Market Committee outlines budget needs, requires background checks for volunteers

At the May 27 Selectboard meeting the newly formed Greenfield Farmer’s Market Committee briefed the board on startup needs and budget concerns. Committee members Barbara Carbee, Cassidy Rae Levada and Adele Hale, joined by Greenfield Event Coordinator Shannon Billodeau, said there is no formal town budget for the Market in 2026 and described a need for purchasing guidance and reimbursement procedures.
The committee and coordinator agreed to set up a dedicated email address for market communications. They also told the board that background checks will be mandatory for anyone volunteering or working with children at Market events. Committee members raised several facility and maintenance issues they want the town to address as the Market establishes operations.
The Selectboard did not adopt a formal Market budget at the meeting; staff and committee members will continue to work through procurement and administrative details ahead of 2027 budget planning.
