Greenfield Selectboard raises police special-detail rate to $70 after chief's briefing

The Greenfield Selectboard on June 17 voted unanimously to raise the police department's special-detail hourly rate from $50 to $70 after a briefing from Police Chief Frank Shea.
Chief Shea told the board he has met with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department and the New Hampshire State Police to explore support for the town's department and said the department's new records system is not yet fully functional because the vendor has a backlog of installations. He said the department is pursuing a grant that could pay for mobile data terminals for squad cars and that the department has been contracted to provide weekend coverage at Greenfield State Park for the rest of the season.
The board approved the higher special-detail rate 3-0; minutes note the cost of details is fully paid by contracting companies. The board also agreed to review administrative and cruiser costs related to details. Chief Shea told the board officers are expected to be available while on call but are only paid when called out; he will investigate how neighboring towns handle on-call compensation.
The vote was recorded as unanimous among Chair Tom Bascom and Selectmen Mike Borden and George Rainier. The board did not record a mover and seconder for the rate change in the minutes. The Selectboard said it will return to administrative and equipment cost matters at a later date.
