Dragon Boat Beaufort hosted race day on Battery Creek, and organizers told BCTV the event raises money for an outreach program supporting cancer patients in Beaufort County.
"All the money that we raise today during our festivals goes towards our outreach program," Director Terry Eli Wenrick said in a station segment. Wenrick said the Dragon Boat festival has operated downtown Beaufort for about 13 years and that proceeds fund local cancer-patient outreach.
Director Casey Willis described the volunteer and logistics effort: organizers said the event relied on about 100 volunteers, a sound-production team and an events crew to set up tents and tables. Willis said 24 teams competed this year and identified Darlene McGrath as the teams coordinator who handles many of the event's moving parts.
The station noted the full event was available on the county broadcast channel's YouTube live tab and encouraged viewers to watch and subscribe. The segment presented organizers' descriptions of staffing and fundraising; it did not announce specific dollar amounts raised.
