The Broken Arrow Board of Education unanimously approved a change order increasing Mammoth Sports Construction's contract by $4,701 to cover repair work to the e-layer (approximately a one-inch rubber shock-absorption layer) under the turf at Memorial Stadium.
Mr. Leach told the board that documentation showed the e-layer dated from 12 years ago but was actually the original layer and that repair work avoided a complete replacement that could have cost the district several hundred thousand dollars. He said the repaired e-layer should extend the life of the field another 10 to 12 years and that annual G-max safety testing is performed.
A board member moved to approve the change order, it was seconded, and the roll-call vote was unanimous.
The change order was described as a cost-saving measure that addressed a localized subbase repair identified during the turf replacement work.
