Board accepts resignation, approves several teacher hires and part-time HR appointment

The Merton Community School District board on March 23 accepted a letter of resignation from Rebecca Cole, a special educator, effective at the end of the school year, and approved several individual teacher contracts and a part-time human resources appointment.
Administration presented the resignation and asked the board to approve acceptance. The board moved and the motion passed. "We wish her the best of luck in her next endeavor," an administrator said when announcing the resignation.
The board approved an individual contract for Carla Vandenboom to staff an additional 5K section created by enrollment shifts, and approved individual contracts for Olivia Bure and Carly Metronowski to fill 5th-grade positions created by movement and retirements. The administration explained how staff reassignments (including a 5K teacher moving to second grade and multiple retirements) led to the openings.
The board also approved the appointment of Samantha Cook as a part-time human resources specialist (10–15 hours per week). Administrators said Cook will be on campus three days a week, will check email remotely on other days, and will be housed in the district business office with flexibility for confidential meetings at school sites.
All personnel items on the agenda were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
