Charlestown Board approves Founders Day stage, City Hall mural and event permits

At its May 21 meeting the Charlestown Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved a City Hall mural contract, a new Founders Day stage and audio contract, inflatables for the Family Activities Park opening, event street closures for two summer events, a cemetery monument repair, and a mailbox reimbursement.
The Charlestown Board of Public Works and Safety on May 21 unanimously approved a set of contracts and event permits ahead of Founders Day and summer community events.
Mayor Treva Hodges presided over the meeting at City Hall, where the board approved an agreement with Fine Line Artistry to paint the previously authorized City Hall mural for up to $7,980. The contract requires a 10% ($798) nonrefundable deposit due now, with the remainder payable upon completion; the mural is expected to be finished by Founders Day and will be paid from the Beautification Donation Fund.
The board also approved a new $9,500 contract with Kentucky Indiana Productions to provide a stage and audio for Founders Day after weather delayed construction of the Commons stage. That contract replaces the prior Founders Day audio agreement; Mac Construction is sponsoring the event at a $15,000 sponsorship level, the board recorded.
For the Family Activities Park opening over the Memorial Day weekend (May 28–31) the board approved a $2,104 contract covering set-up, tear-down and staffing for two water slides.
Officials approved two event permit proposals for the summer: a Clark County Farmers Appreciation farm-to-table dinner on the square on July 25 with Short Street closed July 24–26 and a $2,500 city sponsorship (the Farmers Appreciation group will reimburse additional expenses up to $2,000), and the Backyard Classics Car Show on June 27 with street closures from the evening of June 26 to about 4:00 p.m. on June 27. Mayor Hodges requested and the board accepted an amendment to the car-show closures to preserve access to the Copper Kettle.
The board approved a $1,500 invoice from Cemetery Craftsman LLC to repair the Evan Shelby monument in Halcyon Hill Cemetery, and authorized reimbursement of $426.93 to Zach Howard for a mailbox damaged during winter snow plowing after he located a like-for-like replacement.
All motions recorded in the meeting passed unanimously, 3-0. The meeting adjourned following the last vote.
Agenda and minutes items approved at the start of the session included the May 7 minutes, claims (including additional claims to Redheaded Princess Designs for $210 and Tank Entertainment for $200) and the payroll voucher for April 27–May 17, 2026.
