Platte County approves three ARPA-funded change orders for county buildings

Platte County commissioners approved three ARPA-funded contract change orders at a special meeting Dec. 1, moving to finish renovations and safety upgrades at key county facilities.
County Administrator Wes Mender presented the measures, saying, “We are nearing the end of our ARPA construction projects,” and outlining the work and costs for each site. The commission voted 3-0 to approve each change order.
The first measure, listed as 2025CO019ARPA (change order No. 5 with Centric Projects LLC), covers additional Administration Building work Mender said totals $153,000. He broke the amount into line items, stating roughly $26,000 is for hallway wall repairs on the first floor, $38,000 for first-floor restroom tile changes and about $56,000 for furniture tied to the clerk's office renovation. Mender said the county is aiming to finish that work within four to six weeks and “shooting for a Christmas Eve completion.” A commissioner (speaker 3) moved approval; a commissioner (speaker 1) seconded and the roll call vote was 3-0.
The second approved change order, 2025CO020ARPA (change order No. 6 with Straub Construction), funds courthouse adjustments. Mender said the county recently used the reconfigured courtroom and expects a jury trial next week to test the new seating. The change order includes approximately $19,000 for lobby door reinforcement where new steel doors are being installed into older brick openings, about $34,000 for additional security fobs and cameras with CML Security, and roughly $42,000 to make a second-floor restroom ADA-compliant. The motion to approve was moved and seconded; the commission recorded a 3-0 vote in favor.
The third item, 2025CO021ARPA (change order No. 10 with Access Construction), addresses work in the prosecutor's office. Mender said the upgrade includes bringing a fire-suppression system in the 911/security area up to current standards, which required extra scaffolding that was not part of the original contract. He estimated the work would be completed in about two weeks but did not state a total dollar figure on the record. Commissioners approved the change order 3-0 after a motion and second.
During the meeting a commissioner thanked Mender for managing the projects amid disruption, saying, “Thank you, Wes, for all your work on all of these things.” The special meeting lasted about six minutes and adjourned at 10:41 a.m.
