Platte County Commission approves bids, equipment purchases and routine agreements; several items approved unanimously

The Platte County Commission on Jan. 21 approved a series of routine but operationally important items, including requests for bids, equipment purchases and an annual household hazardous waste agreement.

Public Works Director Bob Heim requested sealed bids for the 2026 road-resurfacing program — roughly 4 miles of asphalt overlay and about 15 miles of microsurfacing — with sealed bids due Feb. 13 and a public opening scheduled on or around Feb. 17 (staff said the date would be updated by addendum if needed). The commission approved the request 3–0.

The commission also approved annual public-works procurement packages for vegetation control, aggregates, fuel and oil, striping and towing (sealed bids due in mid-February). Parks and Recreation Director Daniel Erickson presented two procurement requests: a bid solicitation for concession-stand operators at Platte Ridge Park (three stands) and a request for bids to replace spin bikes at community centers (25 new bikes to trade in 23). Both items were approved 3–0; Erickson said spin-bike purchases are funded by community center membership fees.

Other approved items included a Bean Lake lease agreement allowing staff to transfer a 3-year lease for 14 small properties (transcript redacted occupant surname) and the county's annual participation in a household hazardous waste program run by the Mid-America Solid Waste district. The hazardous-waste program cost for the county this year was stated in the meeting as $34,807 and $1,775 (as read in the transcript); funding was described as coming from the county stormwater/parks tax.

All business items on the agenda were approved by unanimous roll call (3–0). The commission adjourned at 10:54 a.m.
