Platte County approves assessor maintenance plan that adds staff and anticipates thousands of parcel inspections

Platte County commissioners approved the county assessormaintenance plan for 2026–2027 on Dec. 15, a plan the assessor said is required under state statute and designed to ensure accurate, fair and compliant assessments.
Assessor Marcus Farr told commissioners the maintenance plan includes GIS mapping updates, physical inspections, ratio studies and valuation work. To carry out the plan the assessor said the office will add seven field data collectors plus three additional staff to support GIS, sales and ratio studies and commercial/personal property processing; that raises the officeplanned headcount to 29 from a stated current staffing level of 22. Farr estimated approximately 13,000 parcels may exceed the 15% change threshold and therefore potentially require on‑site inspection.
Farr said costs associated with necessary additional office space could qualify for state reimbursement if identified in the county maintenance plan under the cited statute. Commissioners questioned staffing numbers and details; Farr confirmed the plan shows 29 positions and explained the timeline and statutory submission to the state tax commission (SDC). The commission moved and approved the plan by roll call 3–0.
The plan will be submitted to the state for approval and the county will seek reimbursements as appropriate if office‑space or other costs are eligible.
