Platte County backs 'Let Builders Build' campaign to ease housing constraints in Kansas City region

On Dec. 1 the Platte County Commission unanimously adopted Resolution 2025RES082 expressing support for the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s 'Let Builders Build' campaign, which seeks policy changes to accelerate housing production in the Kansas City region.
County administrator Wes Minder presented the resolution, saying a substantial portion of Platte County’s population resides within Kansas City, Mo., and that restrictive permitting and regulatory practices in the city have driven builders into unincorporated county areas. Minder said the county’s streamlined permit process helps encourage efficient construction while balancing safety and community needs.
Will Reuter, staff with the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City, addressed the commission and thanked them for the action. “We do not have enough housing. We do not have enough types of housing, and we do not have the correctly priced housing for all of the needs across our community,” Reuter said, urging continued collaboration between local officials and the building industry.
The commission read the resolution on the record, called for public comment from association members in attendance and voted 3‑0 to adopt the resolution. The adoption is a statement of regional policy support rather than a change to county code or permitting processes.
