Jury tables preliminary approval for proposed manufactured-home park after neighbor objections

The Police Jury unanimously voted on June 24 to table preliminary approval for a proposed manufactured-home park at 714, 716 and 718 Shell Beach Road in Pierre Part after neighbors raised maintenance and litigation concerns during a public hearing.
Residents Sherry Nelson and Rodrick Paille Jr. told the jury the existing lot has debris, overgrowth and is the subject of an ongoing investigation; they questioned how a preliminary approval could proceed while the property has unresolved issues. The permit official said the sanitarian had approved septic capacity for two additional mobile homes and explained the difference between minor and major mobile-home parks. ADA Michael Calabro noted the jury had no oversight of the reported litigation and said material submitted for the record would be referred to legal review.
During the hearing Police Juror Jamie Ponville identified himself as the property owner/developer and said additional units were possible but not certain; ADA Calabro asked that his comments be recorded as those of the developer rather than in his role as juror. Police Juror Myron Matherne moved to table the item until ADA review; the motion was adopted unanimously.
