Pleasant Valley aldermen move meetings to 6 p.m., accept resignation and approve personnel changes

The board debated shifting the meeting time to increase in-person attendance and limit late-night staff hours. Alderman (speaker 5) moved “that we adjust the start time of the regular council meetings from 05:30PM to 6PM,” a motion that was seconded and later approved by the board. Residents who spoke during public comment urged the board to consider either 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. to avoid the dinner hour, but board members said they would monitor additional outreach and could revisit the schedule if needed. Resident (speaker 9) said, “If we can move the time until 06:00, that gives people more time, especially if they get off at 5,” urging the compromise.
The board created a personnel committee and named members. The finance chair was identified as Patrick Gallagher; the motion proposed Debbie Scarborough and Serenity Olsen as committee members. Separately, the board approved hiring Avery Brown as a volunteer firefighter at $10 per call, pending a background check, drug screen and physical.
In other business, the police chief (speaker 10) asked the board to authorize the sale of a 2013 Ford Interceptor via an online auction service (Purple Wave). A motion to allow the chief to proceed was moved and approved. The chief also reported on stolen vehicles and said a high proportion of thefts appeared to originate from a lot behind a church; he also noted the city’s approval to apply as a Missouri grant-eligible community could open access to future state funds (details not yet specified).
The meeting concluded after passage of several ordinances and a resolution to participate in a regional hazard mitigation plan; board members said more outreach and follow-up work would occur on meeting time, travel costs, and committee scheduling.
