Platte County panel approves small rezone and 50-year horse permit renewal

The Platte County Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved several routine land-use items on Nov. 18, including a rezone and a long-term renewal of a horse special-use permit.
Staff presented a rezone request by the Wilkins Stanley Trust to change 9.89 acres at 9450 Northwest Moore Road from AG to R-80 to reduce front- and side-setback requirements to permit an accessory building. Staff said the property meets R-80 minimum lot-size and lot-width standards and recommended approval; a commissioner moved to approve and the motion passed unanimously.
On agenda item 5(b) staff said an existing special-use permit that allowed up to five horses on a five-acre parcel had been approved in December 2000 for a 25-year period and was expiring. The applicant, Hillary Smith, asked to renew the permit for a maximum of three horses for 50 years. Neighbors and staff noted the property has been well-maintained and there were no complaints on record; the commission voted unanimously to renew the permit with the requested limitations.
The commission also approved minutes and set its next meeting for Dec. 16 at 6 p.m.
