Engineers and lake contractor report on stormwater performance; residents raise standing-water and conservation-area concerns

District Engineer Charlie Krebs and contractor Premier Lakes, Inc. reported on infrastructure and stormwater matters at the Aug. 27 River Ridge CDD meeting.
Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes said the lakes are "in very good shape," crews removed fallen trees from an FPL ditch ahead of an expected tropical storm, and Premier increased service frequency from quarterly to monthly during the rainy season to address growth in preserves and dry retention areas. Kurth also said a Lake H1-B nano-bubbler lost prime and repairs would be completed the following day; he said proposals for electrical work related to moving a compressor in the Masters Lake will be presented by Mr. Willis and Alex Kurth.
Charlie Krebs updated the Board on an MRI project replacing Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grates (approximately 80% complete) and on system performance after Tropical Storm Debbie. Krebs said parts of the community received almost 8 inches of rain over two to three days while the roads are designed for 5½ inches in 24 hours; he reported the stormwater system flowed unobstructed but reached capacity. He suggested The Club could add a drainage connection to E1-A to bypass pipes and inlets and discharge directly to the lake.
A resident reported standing water coming up through a slab and alleged mold issues; Krebs said he did not believe standing water was the cause because other units did not report similar problems and asked Mr. Long to comment on the matter at a future meeting. Resident Anita Bachragh requested a downed tree by River 9 Catch Basin #134 be brought upright and asked for additional clearing of the conservation area; Operations Manager Shane Willis asked for photographs to review. Resident Christine Mantilia asked about stormwater permits and whether fire trucks could draw lake water to lower lake levels; Krebs said using lake water for that purpose is atypical and would require South Florida Water Management District approval.
Mr. Willis said Mr. Long is scheduling training for staff on the speed sign project and will provide an update at the next meeting. The Board will track remaining construction, paving/patch schedules and any necessary repairs with Lee County Utilities where applicable.
