Safety Committee forwards Axon taser replacement ordinance (25-155) to council

The North Royalton Safety Committee on Nov. 18 voted to move Ordinance 25-155, an agreement with Axon Enterprises for tasers and related equipment, to the full council agenda.
Police Chief Keith Tarase told the committee the purchase replaces the department—xisting tasers that have reached the end of their useful life. "Usually taser equipment is really only good for about five years," Tarase said, describing the acquisition as a lifecycle replacement and an update in training and equipment.
Tarase said the devices are carried by school resource officers, jail personnel and tactical officers; Webber noted she had not realized the department already carried tasers and understood this action to be an upgrade rather than an expansion of use.
A motion to forward the ordinance to council was moved by John Nickell and seconded by Heidi Webber. The transcript records the vote as Yeas: Two (Nickell, Webber); Absent: One (Wos). The ordinance will next appear on the council agenda for final consideration.
