President Chapman previews Tuesday meeting; public hearing set on proposed budget

President Chapman said the governing board will meet at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday in the boardroom for a public hearing on the previously proposed budget, and that "the board will be voting on that budget this Tuesday." The hearing will include highlights of the budget and a public-comment period using separate comment forms for speakers and written input.

The meeting will follow the district's usual order of business, Chapman said: regular openings, superintendent and governing-board updates, public comment, then approval of a consent agenda that contains numerous annual renewals of partnership agreements. Chapman said only two action items are expected to come out of the consent agenda: adoption of the proposed budget and a vote on the board's strategic goals.

Chapman described the strategic-goals item as a proposal to keep the same goals from the previous year after a district retreat last month, saying the goals remain focused on the state letter-grade system and on supporting students across the district. "We're gonna propose the same goals from this last year because they're focused on the state letter grade system and some of the goals that we have as a district," Chapman said.

The preview included logistics for the start of the school year: Chapman said classes begin at the end of July, with freshmen returning the last Friday in July, and he thanked staff working over the summer. The session organizers described the agenda as relatively short and encouraged the public to attend.

The governing board is scheduled to consider the budget adoption and the strategic-goals vote at the Tuesday meeting. No formal votes occurred during the preview itself; both items are set for decision at the upcoming meeting.
