Maries R-1 board approves consent items, PD plan and MSBA policy updates; sets tax-rate hearing

The Maries R-1 School Board handled routine business and a set of policy and planning items at its July 22 meeting.
The board approved the meeting agenda and the June 24 minutes (motions by Jacob Hallahan; second by Lori Hayes) and approved the bills/direct deposit list (motion by Lori Hayes, second Kevin Heavin). Teresa Messersmith presented the district financial report. The board also approved adding Debra Heimbaugh to the substitute list (motion by Matt Novak, second Kevin Heavin).
On new business the board approved a memorandum of understanding with Central Methodist University (motion by Kevin Heavin, second Jake Hallahan) and approved the district’s 2025–26 Professional Development Plan (motion by Matt Novak, second Kevin Heavin). The board accepted updates to MSBA Policy 25C (motion by Kevin Heavin, second Lori Hayes). The board set the tax-rate hearing for Aug. 19, 2025 at 5:45 p.m. and approved charging admission for games held at Vienna City Park. The agenda item related to the Maries County Fair agreement was tabled and will be considered later.
All recorded votes on these items were 5-0 in favor with two members listed absent.
