At the Sept. 17 meeting, Superintendent Rod Morrison presented the Superintendent’s report, offering thank‑yous to the Whale Pass Songahm Program students and outlining recent engagements and upcoming events that the administration deemed sharable. The superintendent then invited department and school representatives to summarize highlights included in the board packet: Area Principal/Dean of Students Shaine Nixon reported district and Thorne Bay School highlights; AK‑TRAILS Correspondence/Homeschool Coordinator Cassandra Christopherson gave an update on AK‑TRAILS; Patrick Trischman shared developments from Port Alexander School and the ATTSAA program; Business Contractor Lucienne Smith and State & Federal Programs/Grants Coordinator Astrid Richard‑Cook summarized their department highlights and grant activity.
Student Representative Teagen Taylor presented a student report covering the start of the school year, testing, activities, preschool, senior planning, and school pictures. The minutes list reports for a range of departments and schools in the board packet (Area Principal/Dean of Students, AK‑TRAILS Correspondence/Homeschool, Barry Craig Stewart Kasaan School, Howard Valentine Coffman Cove School, Port Alexander School, Whale Pass School, Activities Department, Business Department, Child Nutrition Program, Greenhouse/Agriculture Program, Maintenance Department, State & Federal Programs/Grants, and Technology Department).
The meeting packet contains the written reports; the minutes summarize that highlights were shared but do not include the full text of each report. Board members and department leads are scheduled to attend the AASB Annual Conference Nov. 13–16, 2025, in Anchorage.
