Superintendent Rod Morrison presented the Superintendent's report at the Aug. 20 Southeast Island School District board meeting, summarizing district goals, recent engagements, upcoming events and items of shareable news. Morrison also invited department and school leaders to brief the board on program highlights included in the meeting packet.
Area Principal and Dean of Students Shaine Nixon described summer work and preparations for the upcoming school year, professional development activities, preschool programming and senior-year planning, and referenced a district literacy grant. AK-TRAILS Correspondence/Homeschool Coordinator Cassandra Christophers provided highlights about the AK-TRAILS homeschool program. Superintendent Morrison reported on the Songahm Academic Program at Whale Pass School.
Business Contractor Lucienne Smith shared updates from the Business Department, and Greenhouse/Agriculture Program Coordinator Brandy Schmitz-Prefontaine summarized the greenhouse and agriculture program. Maintenance Director Scott Randall reported on maintenance activities. Special Programs Director Robbin Perkins covered special programs and assessments. State & Federal Programs/Grants Coordinator Astrid Richard-Cook reviewed state and federal program and grant-related items. The packet also included reports for the Child Nutrition Program and Technology Department for board review.
Student Representative Teagen Taylor attended briefly during Administrative/Board Reports before stepping out prior to New Business. The reports were presented for the board's review; no formal board actions were recorded against the program reports at the meeting.
