Planning commission approves rezoning for 1637 Mount Herman Road

The Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission voted July 13 to recommend rezoning a 1.23-acre site at 1637 Mount Herman Road from Residential Medium (RM) to Light Industrial (LI). Commissioners moved to approve the applicant’s request “with all staff comments,” and the motion passed on a roll call vote.

The applicant, Veil Kuzovic, told commissioners he had addressed prior concerns and was prepared to meet staff requirements. “I’ve been here and spoke with you guys about the property,” Kuzovic said during his remarks, asking the commission to approve the rezoning so he could continue operations and clean up the site.

Staff presented background showing the item had been reviewed at a prior meeting and that the applicant conducted a neighborhood meeting that drew no attendees; staff noted a concept plan was submitted the morning of the hearing and recommended approval with standard conditions. A public commenter said the site historically included commercial uses and supported approval, telling commissioners the applicant had followed staff guidance.

The commission voted by roll call; all members present voted in favor. The commission chair and staff reminded commissioners that any rezoning and zoning regulation amendments recommended by the planning commission will go before the Board of Commissioners on Aug. 26, 2026 unless deferred or withdrawn.

What’s next: The county commission will consider the planning commission’s recommendation on Aug. 26. If approved there, the rezoning would proceed according to county procedures and any conditions attached by staff and the planning body.
